Daybreak Hospitality, the team behind Austin’s Paperboy, announces its newest concept, Loudmouth, a neighborhood restaurant offering sharable wood-fired pizzas, fun riffs on classics, and more with a spacious outdoor lawn and indoor seating. The restaurant is located in East Austin’s historic Haynes-Delashwah house (1209 Rosewood Ave), an 1890s historic Victorian house previously home to longtime city councilmember Harry L. Haynes and later Austin’s first black pharmacist, Thomas Delashwah.

Situated on a half-acre property, the sprawling lawn offers a vibe reminiscent of a classic beer garden with rows of picnic tables, a shaded patio, large oak trees, and a play area for kids. The cozy indoor space will feature many elements of the original building, a source of inspiration for the new design, such as the stained-glass panels of the entry doors and upstairs windows. The beaded paneling throughout the interior inspired the design of the bar.

“Peeling back some of the layers, we really wanted to honor the historic nature of the building and allow the bones of the old historic structure to sing,” notes Furman + Keil Architects principal Philip Keil. “The new elements we are bringing in play off of the old character mixed with playful color and paired with wood and brick materials. Our studio sits across the street from this property, so this project was even more personal as neighbors in this community.”
